Nutmeg Whole

Nutmeg comes from an evergreen tree native to the Spice Islands near Indonesia, but has been cultivated throughout the tropics by both native cultures and foreign. Not only did native cultures find use for them in cuisine and medicine, nutmeg caused a fervor for the English, Dutch, Chinese, Indians, and pretty much anyone else who came in contact with it. But did you know that the nutmeg tree produces two different spices: nutmeg and mace? Use a coffee grinder and grate your nutmeg fresh. It’s not just for the gingerbread man, either! Use fresh grated nutmeg from whole nutmeg with savory as well as sweet dishes, including fruits, eggs, spinach, cheeses, pumpkin, pork, and veal. Combine fresh grated nutmeg with a number of spices you already use, such as cinnamon, parsley, onion, and salt and pepper, to really add aromatic and piney taste and scent sensation to your cooking.

Usage
